Singing in The Silver Ring Choir
The Silver Ring Choir is always looking for good singers. Currently, the Choir has around 80 members.
Our Conductor, Grenville Jones is always keen to welcome new young singers to the Choir. By making that statement, he does not intend to give offence to singers of more mature years! However, if choral singing is to develop, then more young people have to be encouraged to take part, enjoy, and tell their young friends!
You do not have to read music to belong to our Choir. A good singing voice that sits within your range is required plus the enthusiasm to support the Choir in all its musical activities. Grenville also tries to encourage younger singers to develop their solo skills where possible. Two sopranos, Clare Devine and Claire Marson, joined the Choir since he became Conductor and have developed as soloists. Clare Devine has since moved from Bath but featured on the Choir's CD 'Heritage to Music'. Claire Marson is a valued member of The Silver Ring Choir and a popular soloist at our concerts. She features on our recent CDs and is a soloist on the Choir's newest Christmas CD 'Joy to the World'. Click here for more details of our new CD.
Rehearsals take place on Mondays and Thursday, 7.45 - 9.45 p.m., at Manvers Street Baptist Church Hall, Bath (next to the Police Station). Members are asked to commit themselves to at least one rehearsal each week, although many attend (and enjoy) both evenings!
New Members have to go through an audition and would-be members should know that all music has to be learned as no copies are used during a performance. However, Grenville always tries to set out well in advance the programme of items and the hard work in the rehearsal room bears fruit on the concert stage.
If you would like to know more about the Choir why not come along to a rehearsal? You can call our Conductor on 01761-479352.
